Conceived as a critical re-reading of Mexican aesthetics, the project examines the systems of representation that have historically shaped notions of beauty, identity, and visibility in the country. His work has been included in solo and group exhibitions at institutions and spaces such as: The Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), Another Space Foundation (New York), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Museo Franz Mayer (Mexico City), Museo del Chopo (Mexico City), Centro de la Imagen (Mexico City), Casa de México en España (Madrid), Abierto Mexicano de Diseño (Mexico City), PhotoVogue Festival (Milan), and Institute of Contemporary Art Los Angeles ICA LA, as well as in galleries including LaPau Gallery (Los Angeles), Industry One Gallery (Portland), and Galería Agustina Ferreyra (Mexico City). López Macías has also worked in the editorial and fashion fields as an art director and editorial photographer, collaborating with publications and commercial projects from a critical perspective on representation, the body, and identity. As an extension of this research, he founded ESE CHICO, an independent platform that operates simultaneously as a brand, a casting agency, and a visual project, focused on foregrounding bodies, aesthetics, and narratives traditionally excluded from the fashion and advertising industries in Mexico. Through ESE CHICO, his practice expands into merch, styling, casting, and collaborative work with local communities, maintaining a strong emphasis on self-representation and aesthetic agency. In 2026, he will present MEXICANO at BODEGA (OMR), Mexico City, marking the first comprehensive presentation of the archive, conceived as a critical structure for rethinking Mexico’s contemporary imaginary.
